Youth-led Presidential Debate

In 2016 , MSW students spearheaded UMB’s first bipartisan presidential debate in partnership with the Young Democrats of Maryland, the Maryland Federation of Young Republicans, the Green Party of Maryland, and the University of Maryland Baltimore Student Leadership Development Program.

For this project, the student recruited the son of one of the MSW students, Dorian to interview current young leaders of political parties across Maryland to educate youth to be active participants in a diverse democracy.

Topics included , but not limited to, the importance of voting and how to be an informed youth on issues impacting young people in Baltimore City.

Dorian is currently a high school freshman and wants to continue to apply the leadership and public speaking skills he learned four years ago. As a member of the Youth Advisory Council, he is excited to meet other high school students across the state and country to advance social, racial, and environmental change in human services.
